The Gratitude of Lacking Nothing

This week’s item is actually a gift that I received for Christmas from my mom. It’s called the Gratitude of Lacking Nothing necklace and is a mixed-metal necklace with two charms. The silver charm is a yin & yang (the interconnected symbol of balance and harmony). The 24k gold vermeil charm represents a Zen circle (the symbol for enlightenment and the wholeness of the universe). All together the necklace means to be one with a universe of abundance–you are never alone. The quote by Lao Tzu sums everything up perfectly, “when you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” The artist Mary Steratore has a variety of necklaces that mean all sorts of things. Besides the wonderful meaning of the necklace, I love how simple it is. It’s great to wear everyday. I do have to warn you that the necklace is an odd length but that’s one of the things I love about it. It’s long but not too long.

So this week’s items are my two favorite makeup products right now. First is the Yves Saint Laurent Eyeliner Effect Faux Cils Shocking in black. I bought this at Sephora a few months ago and I wear it almost everyday. It’s a nice felt tip that makes it really easy to apply and goes on rather thick all at once. The other is Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies Flared Mascara in blackest black. I bought this at Target but it is available in really any drugstore where makeup is sold. I’ve had a really hard time finding a good mascara and have tried a huge range of different brands at all prices and nothing has worked as well as this one! I do have to say that the only bad thing about this mascara is that it has an odd smell. I can only smell it when I’m applying it but it’s not like I smell it all day. I would highly recommend these two products to anyone. Let me know what your favorite makeup products are.

This week’s fashion item is probably one of the best purchases I’ve made in a long time! This is the Wildfox ‘Living in New York’ Sweatshirt that I bought at Nordstrom. It is so incredibly comfy and soft! I’ve already told you how much I’m in love with the color mint green right now so that’s another thing this sweatshirt has going for it! Now that it is finally getting cold enough in SoCal to actually want to wear a sweatshirt, this is perfect! It’s light enough to keep you just the right amount warm. The only bad thing about it is that it makes me miss being in New York City even more than I already do! Well only a little more than a month until I get to go back!! Starting the countdown now!

30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #27

Day 27. Movie With Your Favorite Villain

  • Hans Gruber in Die Hard (1988)–John McClane, officer of the NYPD, tries to save wife Holly Dennaro and several others, taken hostage by German terrorist Hans Gruber during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles. Starring Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman and Bonnie Bedelia. There is something about Alan Rickman that makes an awesome bad guy. He’s freaky and so badass! LOVE HIM!

  • Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmatians (1996)–A woman kidnaps puppies to kill them for their fur, but various animals then gang up against her and get their revenge in slapstick fashion. Starring Glenn Close, Jeff Daniels and Joely Richardson. I think that Cruella De Vil is one of the best Disney villains! I was even her for Halloween one year. Glenn Close does a great job bringing this animated character to life that she is forever known in my mind as Cruella.

  • Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991)–A young FBI cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help on catching another serial killer who skins his victims. Starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. I think this is self explanatory. I mean he eats people. He’s so good at being so freaking creepy!

  • The Joker in The Dark Knight (2008)–When Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent launch an assault on the mob, they let the clown out of the box, the Joker, bent on turning Gotham on itself and bringing any heroes down to his level. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman. Health brought it all to this character. The creepiest part of this character was all the little ticks and mannerisms.

  • Hilly Holbrook in The Help (2011)–An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African-American maids’ point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis. Starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain. She isn’t as evil as the rest but there is a more real-life evil to her. She totally got what was coming to her!

Who’s your favorite movie villain??

Today’s fashion item are my favorite shoes right now! They are the Cole Haan Sloane EVA Loafers. I’ve said before how much I love Cole Haan shoes because they are so freaking comfortable! They have the Nike Air soles which give the balls of your feet so much more padding. The leather of the rest of the shoe is really soft! I’m loving the two colors of the shoes. I have the black and blue ones but they come in a bunch of other colors too! I love the metallic and teal ones…I may just have to get another pair.

This week’s fashion item is my favorite dress of the moment. This is the Kirna Zabete for Target Zip Front Sleeveless Tweed/Faux Leather Dress. It’s still being sold in the stores and as of right now it’s on sale online for $31.48. Anyway, I’m obsessed with this look for fall! I’ve never really been a big fan of tweed but for some reason I am loving the texture of the fabric. That along with the cool accents of faux leather, bring a rather simple dress to cool and edgy. I’m still trying to figure out what to wear it with but I’ve seen some pretty fun outfits put together with this dress online. It’s still pretty warm here in SoCal so I may have to wait a little while longer to really wear this. Good thing I’m off to Boston for a quick weekend trip soon!!
