The past few years I’ve tried to watch 31 horror/Halloween-themed movies for the month of October. This year was the first time in a while that I haven’t had the time to watch all 31 so I settled on 13.

In Your Eyes isn’t your typical romantic movie. In Joss Whedon fashion, it has elements that set the movie apart from all the rest. Whedon penned this witty, supernatural romance around the idea that the two main characters are linked telepathically. They can talk to one another through their minds, see what the other one is seeing, and even sense what the other is feeling. Somehow Whedon makes this seemingly silly thought into a very normal and intimate interaction between two people.
Becky (Zoe Kazan) and Dylan’s (Michael Stahl-David) connection starts at a very young age when Dylan falls from his desk in pain when Becky crashes her sled into a tree. Although they both experienced these “painful” moments that belong to the other, they don’t realize their connection until years later when they give in and begin to talk to each other. She’s married to a doctor who believes that she is having some sort of psychotic break with reality and he’s recently been released from jail trying to start over.
Most of the film follows the unfolding of their unique relationship. Somehow these two people who are seen as outcasts in their own lives are able to look past everything and find the truth in the other. Although not much happens, their budding relationship leads to a dramatic escape from each of their realities into a hopeful future.
Overall this film is totally worth the watch. It has more of a tender vibe going on but the acting is fantastic! Watch out world Zoe Kazan is going to be everywhere soon! It’s the perfect flick for a relaxed evening especially since the movie was released to rent on their website the same day that it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Happy watching!
