30 Day TV Challenge: Day #1

Day 1. A show that should have never been canceled.

Since I’ve been such a big TV fan for so long, there are so many shows that I loved that have been canceled. Although many of them were ended when they should have (and many more lasted more seasons than they should have), there are a few shows that I wish would have lasted longer.

Party Down (2009-2010)

Party Down is about a group of cater-waiters who are aspiring actors or writers in Hollywood. The characters are crazy and silly which just leads to trouble. I only discovered the show this year but I watched every episode in the span of a few days. The show aired for two seasons on Starz and is in talks of being made into a movie. I really hope that ends up being true because this is a show that could’ve lasted so much longer. Plus Lizzy Caplan and Adam Scott make the best couple!!!

Without a Trace (2002-2009)

Although Without a Trace lasted seven seasons, I was just too sad to see the show go. Ever since the show’s been canceled, I’ve had a hole in my heart and TV schedule in the shape of this show. The show revolves around a missing persons unit in NYC who search for missing people. The agents have history with one another and often find themselves too involved with their work. I don’t know what it was about this show, but I just can’t seem to find anything else like it.

30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #30

Day 30. Last Movie You Watched

I’m so sad to say that this is the last day of my movie challenge. I’ve enjoyed doing this challenge so much…maybe I’ll find another challenge to do in a few months or so. Let me know if you have any suggestions. My thoughts are maybe a tv or photo challenge. Anyway here’s the last day of the movie challenge!

• Butter (2012)–In small-town Iowa, an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman in their town’s annual contest. Starring Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone, Ty Burrell, Rob Corddry and Yara Shahidi. Yes this movie is all about butter sculpting but I loved it! There is such an emphasis on the characters and their relationships that make this story so touching. They are crazy yet so endearing. The cast is wonderful! Definitely recommending this movie!

• Now and Then (1995)–Four 12-year-old girls grow up together during an eventful small-town summer in 1970. Starring Christina Ricci, Rosie O’Donnell, Gaby Hoffmann, Demi Moore, Thora Birch, Melanie Griffith, Ashleigh Aston Moore and Rita Wilson. This is one of my all-time favorites and it didn’t really fit into any of the other categories so I figured I would watch it and mention it here. It’s a great coming of age story with all the fun and weirdness of being a kid/preteen.

• Gone Baby Gone (2007)–Two Boston area detectives investigate a little girl’s kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personality. Based on the Dennis Lehane novel. Written and directed by Ben Affleck. Starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris and Amy Ryan. I’ve seen this movie a handful of times but it was the 99 cent rental on iTunes so i figured I would watch it again. I really love Ben Affleck behind the camera! He did a wonderful job with this film as well as The Town. I’ve also heard great things about Argo. I can’t wait to see it.

• Save the Date (2012)–Sarah begins to confront her shortcomings after she rejects her boyfriend’s hasty proposal and soon finds herself in a rebound romance. Meanwhile, her sister Beth is immersed in the details of her wedding. Starring Lizzy Caplan, Alison Brie, Martin Starr, Mark Webber and Geoffrey Arend. My girl crush right now is Lizzy Caplan and I just love everything that she does. This movie moves slowly but it’s an interesting look into a woman’s resistance to relationships.

• Riding in Cars With Boys (2001)–A single mother, with dreams of becoming a writer, has a son at the age of 15 in 1965, and goes through a failed marriage with the drug-addicted father. Starring Drew Barrymore, Steve Zahn, Brittany Murphy, James Wood and Lorraine Bracco. This is another favorite of mine that I sometimes forget about because it is pretty sad. I love Drew Barrymore and I think this is one the best roles she’s ever played.

30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #15

Day 15. Favorite Play Adaption Independent Films

I’ve seen and read a lot of plays but not many that have been made into movies…or good movies worth seeing. I don’t feel like doing this one and I felt that there was a major category missing: indie movies. I’m obsessed with independent films but I have a hard time comparing them to bigger films in each category…they deserve their own. Sorry it’s so many, I just couldn’t cut it down so here goes.

• Bottle Shock (2008)–The story of the early days of California wine making featuring the now infamous, blind Paris wine tasting of 1976 that has come to be known as “Judgment of Paris.” Starring Chris Pine, Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman. Wine, Alan Rickman, Chris Pine with long hair…what more could you ask for in a movie?

• HappyThankYouMorePlease (2010)–Captures a generational moment-young people on the cusp of truly growing up, tiring of their reflexive cynicism, each in their own ways struggling to connect and define what it means to love and be loved.  Josh Radnor writes, directs and stars along side of Malin Akerman, Zoe Kazan and Kate Mara. Josh Radnor is just amazing!! I love Ted Mosby!!

• The Amateurs (2005)–Citizens of a small town, under the influence of a man in the midst of a mid-life crisis, come together to make an adult film. Starring Jeff Bridges, Ted Danson, Joe Pantoliano and Lauren Graham. A hilarious film with extremely quirky characters making a porno…just so freaking funny!!

• Trucker (2008)–A trucker, leading a life free of depth and on the way to nowhere, is forced to make a decision about her aggressive loner 11-year-old son whom she openly deserted ten years previously. Starring Michelle Monaghan, Nathan Fillion and Benjamin Bratt. I seriously love Michelle Monaghan in this movie. She plays a good tough woman.

• Wild Target (2010)–A hitman tries to retire but a beautiful thief may change his plans. Starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt and Rupert Grint. A great mixture of comedy and action. Watching the characters figure out what is going on is the highlight of the film.

• Ruby Sparks (2012)–A novelist struggling with writer’s block finds romance in a most unusual way: by creating a female character he thinks will love him, then willing her into existence. Zoe Kazan writes and stars along side of Paul Dano, Chris Messina, Annette Bening and Antonio Banderas. So freaking adorable!! I love knowing that these two (Zoe and Paul) are dating in real life and Zoe wrote it for them to play these roles. It’s a great look at how people are in love with the idea of someone and not that actual person.

• Sleepwalking (2008)–The drama follows a 12-year-old girl’s struggle to come to terms with her mother’s abandonment. Starring Charlize Theron, Nick Stahl, Dennis Hopper, and AnnaSophia Robb. This movie is a bit haunting as a young girl tries to figure out what to do when her mother leaves. She develops a real child/parent relationship with her uncle who really wants to do good by her.

• Win Win (2011)–A struggling lawyer and volunteer wrestling coach’s chicanery comes back to haunt him when the teenage grandson on the client he’s double-crossed comes into his life. Written and directed by Thomas McCarthy. Starring Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan, Jeffrey Tambor, Melanie Lynskey and Alex Shaffer. There is something so real about getting caught up in doing something bad for a selfish reason and learning to be a better person. It’s a remarkable cast!

• Bachelorette (2012)–Three friends are asked to be bridesmaids at a wedding of a woman they used to ridicule back in high school. Starring Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, Rebel Wilson, Adam Scott and James Marsden. It’s a great portrayal of realistic girl friendships…girls seem to have this relationship that is competitive yet they are always there for one another. My favorite part of the whole movie though is the relationship between Lizzy Caplan and Adam Scott’s characters…maybe it’s because I loved them in Party Down but yeah. So fucking funny!!

• Dirty Girl (2010)–It’s 1987 and Danielle, the high school ‘dirty girl’, is running away. With her is chubby, gay Clarke, a bag of flour called Joan and a walkman fill of glorious ’80s tunes. Starring Juno Temple, Jeremy Dozier, Milla Jovovich, Mary Steenburgen, William H. Macy and Tim McGraw. I love this movie! I think that Juno Temple is going to be a huge star!!
