30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #30

Day 30. Last Movie You Watched

I’m so sad to say that this is the last day of my movie challenge. I’ve enjoyed doing this challenge so much…maybe I’ll find another challenge to do in a few months or so. Let me know if you have any suggestions. My thoughts are maybe a tv or photo challenge. Anyway here’s the last day of the movie challenge!

  • Butter (2012)–In small-town Iowa, an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman in their town’s annual contest. Starring Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone, Ty Burrell, Rob Corddry and Yara Shahidi. Yes this movie is all about butter sculpting but I loved it! There is such an emphasis on the characters and their relationships that make this story so touching. They are crazy yet so endearing. The cast is wonderful! Definitely recommending this movie!

  • Now and Then (1995)–Four 12-year-old girls grow up together during an eventful small-town summer in 1970. Starring Christina Ricci, Rosie O’Donnell, Gaby Hoffmann, Demi Moore, Thora Birch, Melanie Griffith, Ashleigh Aston Moore and Rita Wilson. This is one of my all-time favorites and it didn’t really fit into any of the other categories so I figured I would watch it and mention it here. It’s a great coming of age story with all the fun and weirdness of being a kid/preteen.

  • Gone Baby Gone (2007)–Two Boston area detectives investigate a little girl’s kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personality. Based on the Dennis Lehane novel. Written and directed by Ben Affleck. Starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris and Amy Ryan. I’ve seen this movie a handful of times but it was the 99 cent rental on iTunes so i figured I would watch it again. I really love Ben Affleck behind the camera! He did a wonderful job with this film as well as The Town. I’ve also heard great things about Argo. I can’t wait to see it.

  • Save the Date (2012)–Sarah begins to confront her shortcomings after she rejects her boyfriend’s hasty proposal and soon finds herself in a rebound romance. Meanwhile, her sister Beth is immersed in the details of her wedding. Starring Lizzy Caplan, Alison Brie, Martin Starr, Mark Webber and Geoffrey Arend. My girl crush right now is Lizzy Caplan and I just love everything that she does. This movie moves slowly but it’s an interesting look into a woman’s resistance to relationships.

  • Riding in Cars With Boys (2001)–A single mother, with dreams of becoming a writer, has a son at the age of 15 in 1965, and goes through a failed marriage with the drug-addicted father. Starring Drew Barrymore, Steve Zahn, Brittany Murphy, James Wood and Lorraine Bracco. This is another favorite of mine that I sometimes forget about because it is pretty sad. I love Drew Barrymore and I think this is one the best roles she’s ever played.

What was the last movie you watched??

30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #27

Day 27. Movie With Your Favorite Villain

  • Hans Gruber in Die Hard (1988)–John McClane, officer of the NYPD, tries to save wife Holly Dennaro and several others, taken hostage by German terrorist Hans Gruber during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles. Starring Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman and Bonnie Bedelia. There is something about Alan Rickman that makes an awesome bad guy. He’s freaky and so badass! LOVE HIM!

  • Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmatians (1996)–A woman kidnaps puppies to kill them for their fur, but various animals then gang up against her and get their revenge in slapstick fashion. Starring Glenn Close, Jeff Daniels and Joely Richardson. I think that Cruella De Vil is one of the best Disney villains! I was even her for Halloween one year. Glenn Close does a great job bringing this animated character to life that she is forever known in my mind as Cruella.

  • Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991)–A young FBI cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help on catching another serial killer who skins his victims. Starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. I think this is self explanatory. I mean he eats people. He’s so good at being so freaking creepy!

  • The Joker in The Dark Knight (2008)–When Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent launch an assault on the mob, they let the clown out of the box, the Joker, bent on turning Gotham on itself and bringing any heroes down to his level. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman. Health brought it all to this character. The creepiest part of this character was all the little ticks and mannerisms.

  • Hilly Holbrook in The Help (2011)–An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African-American maids’ point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis. Starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain. She isn’t as evil as the rest but there is a more real-life evil to her. She totally got what was coming to her!

Who’s your favorite movie villain??

30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #5

Day 5. Favorite Action

I think that action films are some of the most entertaining films ever made. There is never a dull moment–always someone beating someone else up, some sort of chase scene or what not. I mean the plot lines aren’t usually too strong (sometimes they even suck) but with all the action scenes, it doesn’t really matter. These are my favorite movies to see in the theater.

  • XXX (2002)–Xander Cage is an extreme sports athlete recruited by the government on a special mission. Starring Vin Diesel. I’m obsessed with this movie…I think I was actually the only girl in the whole theater when I saw this! Haha. So entertaining!

  • Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)–Video game adventurer Lara Croft comes to life in a movie where she races against time and villains to recover powerful ancient artifacts. Starring Angelina Jolie, Jon Voight and Iain Glen. I loved the video game when I was little and Angelina Jolie was the spitting image of the girl. She was made to play this role! Yay for badass women!!

  • The Italian Job (2003)–After being betrayed and left for dead in Italy, Charlie Croker and his team plan an elaborate gold heist against their former ally. Starring Donald Sutherland, Mark Wahlberg, Edward Norton, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Seth Green and Mos Def. Because of this movie, I’ve always wanted to drive a mini cooper like a crazy person!

  • Wanted (2008)–A frustrated office worker learns that he is the son of a professional assassin, and that he shares his father’s superhuman killing abilities. Starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman. Ok so Angelina Jolie is the queen of action. SPOILER ALERT! This movie has the best ending ever…when Jolie kills them all and when McAvoy kills Freeman. OMG!

  • Taken (2008)–A retired CIA agent travels across Europe and relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who was kidnapped on a trip to Paris to be sold into prostitution. Stars Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen. Liam Neeson is so badass! But I hate watching Maggie Grace run in this movie…she looks stupid!

What are your favorite action movies?
