Day 30. Saddest character death.

Paul Hennessey from 8 Simple Rules

I can easily say that this is the saddest character death ever because the great John Ritter died. They had to write this into the show and it was heartbreaking to watch the cast deal with the grief. The show did a good job of making you feel like you were watching a real family. They were so relatable. As a character, Paul Hennessey was a normal dad who was just trying to be a good dad and husband. He was uncool at times and had a hard time figuring out how to deal with his teenage daughters but you still knew that he was a great dad. I still cry in the episode where they find his last article.

Rita Bennett from Dexter

Besides the fact that Julie Benz usually plays characters that meet an untimely death, losing Rita was a tough blow. She didn’t even know how dangerous her life was. Married to a serial killer of serial killers. I didn’t see this one coming and I didn’t believe it even after it happened. I figured that she would have been saved come the next season. Boy was I wrong.

Cordelia Chase from Angel

As sad as I was to see Cordelia die, it seemed to put her out of her misery. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then in the beginning of Angel, she was a strong character…a strong woman. But for some reason, she started to turn into some weird thing. For me the icing on the cake was her sleeping with Conor. It was just too freaking weird. I always thought that her and Angel would end up together (even over Angel and Buffy). I was happy with her final episode though. The episode is titled “You’re Welcome” and it restored Cordelia to her former glory. She was the old Cordelia that everyone loved. I like to think that when the final battles were said and done, the powers that be were able to bring her back and she and Angel lived happily ever after. It’s because of Cordelia that I watch Charisma Carpenter in everything else she does.

30 Day TV Challenge: Day #29

Day 29. Current TV show obsession.

Once Upon a Time (2011-)

So I’m not sure how to talk about my obsession with this show without everyone thinking I’m completely crazy! I’ve always been a TV fan but I’ve never obsessed about a show like I do with this one. I will say that I’ve had times this season where I’ve been disappointed with where the show is going, but I always bounce back to loving the show. The main part of my obsession would have to start with my obsession with Disney. These classic fairytales are stories that I still love no matter how old I get. I’ve always said that I will always be a kid at heart. The stories here though are being told for an older audience (yet I bet it’s something that younger kids can enjoy as well). I’ve always been fascinated with the villains and here we really get a chance to know why they are evil. Basically how they lost their loves. The first season really started my obsession though. I loved trying to figure out the clues as to who the characters were–who their fairytale counterparts are. I do like to point out that I figured out at a very early point that August was Pinocchio! The other part of the obsession comes from the couples that are on this show. Snow White and Prince Charming are just so perfect. Belle and Rumpelstiltskin are an interesting couple to watch. I just find myself really rooting for them! And as I’ve pointed out before, Emma and Hook will eventually become a thing. Their dance has been fun to watch though. At the heart of this show though is that it is one big dysfunctional family. Snow and Charming finding Emma/Emma finding her parents is a touching story. I find that each week I’m hoping for more and more parent/child interaction between them. Ok I feel like this is getting long so I’ll stop but there is so much more that I could talk about! I just love this show!!

Day 28. First TV show obsession.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)

I bet anyone who knows me, knows how much I love this show. I was definitely too young when I started watching it but I just couldn’t help it. I loved everything about this show. I’ve already talked about how it’s one of my favorite shows. Part of that is because I’ve been a fan for so long. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve been able to watch the show in a different way. I remember one of my teachers in middle school told me that she took a class in college about Buffy and I wish that my school had had a class like that. Anyway, I find that I can rewatch this show a million times and still not get sick of it. And I also feel like I can remember almost everything that’s happened.

Day 27. Best pilot episode.

Bates Motel (2013-)

As an Alfred Hitchcock fan, I was skeptical when I heard that they were working on making a prequel of Psycho. I didn’t know what to expect and I really didn’t know that they were making a modern prequel. It’s an interesting twist on the story. We all know the horrifying end that these characters face so creating a back story is interesting. I was very happy with the casting of this show. I mean come on! Freddie Highmore is perfect as a young Anthony Perkins. Norman Bates is a unique character and the way that Freddie plays him really nods to the film. The pilot episode did a great job of showing this family in a somewhat normal way with oh so creepy undertones. It keeps me on the edge of my seat during every episode and I can’t wait for the next episode.

Day 26. OMG WTF? Season finale.

Weeds Season 7

When this first aired, I thought that this would be the series finale. I kinda wish that it was because it was such an odd ending. Nancy Botwin was shot and you have no idea if she lives or dies. Seemed fitting for her character. She’s constantly making poor decisions that would put her and her family in even tougher situations than the ones they were in before. It would feel almost natural for her to end up dead as the series concluded but the show got picked up for another season leading everyone to believe that she would live. I know a lot of my friends weren’t so happy with this…hoping that the show had another season to figure out what happened to her. I liked the mystery.

30 Day TV Challenge: Day #25

Day 25. A show you plan on watching (old or new).

Sex and the City (1998-2004)

I really never cared to watch this show until I started watching The Carrie Diaries. I was way too young to watch this and it’s not an easy show to find the episodes. Enough of my friends have talked about how much they like the show so I figured I would give it a try. At the moment, I’m in season 3 and still uncertain about whether I like it or not. I also really dislike Sarah Jessica Parker for some reason. I’m trying to get over it but it’s difficult.

Criminal Minds (2005-)

My mom has gotten me obsessed with this show! She knows when the marathons play during the week so we spent a few days watching old episodes. I have a hard time really enjoying a show unless I start it from the beginning so I just bought the first season on iTunes and I feel like I’m going to fly through it. I love a good crime show and it definitely fills a void in what I’m watching right now!

Six Feet Under (2001-2005)

I haven’t started watching this yet and I really don’t know too much about what the show is about. All I really needed to know was that Michael C. Hall is in it. He’s perfect as Dexter so I would watch him in anything! Maybe I’ll wait to watch this until Dexter has finished so I’m not as sad!

Day 24. Best quote.

I think that One Tree Hill probably has some of the best quotes from a TV show to choose from. Almost any of Lucas’ voice overs contain awesome lines. But there is something about this quote that I’ve always kept with me. I used to have a ton of sticky notes on the wall behind my computer and this is the only one that I have kept up there for the past 6+ years. It says so much about Peyton’s character and I really loved her (except the fact that she didn’t come back even for the finale). Ah this is making me want to rewatch One Tree Hill!!

30 Day TV Challenge: Day #23

Day 23. Most annoying character.

Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy

For all the years that I watched this show, Meredith has always gotten on my nerves. For the fact that she is the “main character” of the show, I wish I liked her more. I just find that she complains too much and her on-again-off-again relationship with Derek is just annoying. Then on top of it all she had a season or two where she just didn’t care about life and wanted to die. It’s hard to like a character that doesn’t seem to care about anything. It’s especially hard to like her character when there are so many other strong characters to enjoy on the show. I’ve had to stop watching though because almost all of my favorite characters are gone!

30 Day TV Challenge: Day #22

Day 22. Favorite series finale.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD. I can’t talk about how great these series finales are unless I give away how the whole series ended. If you’re planning on watching these shows don’t keep reading!

Gossip Girl (2007-2012)

I was a big fan of the show when it first came out but once it started to get boring, they took it to some crazy level to keep it going. There were many times that I stopped watching the show to later get roped back in by some crazy plot line. Knowing that they were tying everything up in a short half season, I watched the last handful of episodes live. And I’m so glad I did because the series finale answered a question that I have had for years before the show even started: Who is Gossip Girl?! That answer came as quite a surprise when they revealed it to be none other than Lonely Boy himself. I wouldn’t have guessed it was Dan! I’m glad that they went back and explained how it could be him because there are so many things that didn’t make sense. The rest of the series was tied up nicely and I’m a sucker for happy endings. Having Blair & Chuck and Dan & Serena end up together makes for a good ending.

House M.D. (2004-2012)

This finale was just genius. For years House was pranking his colleagues, friends and patients so it was great to end the show with him pranking the audience. House is an interesting character so you never know if he is really an asshole or if he really cares for the few people in his life. Seeing that he organized this whole thing so that he could be with Wilson for the last bit of time he has. I don’t think anyone would have believed he would do the same for any girlfriend but he really loved Wilson as family. The two have an ultimate bromance. I’m still sad that Cuddy didn’t make it back for his funeral because you know she really did care about him.

30 Day TV Challenge: Day #21

Day 21. Favorite ship.

Captain Swan–Captain Hook and Emma Swan from Once Upon a Time

I’ve never had a ship before Captain Hook joined the cast of Once Upon a Time. The chemistry between these two was apparent from their first scene and has only grown more and more evident since. Besides the fact that the two have awesome chemistry, the show has done an awesome job of paralleling the characters to show how perfect they are for one another. I follow so many people on Tumblr that have pointed out the smallest little clues that lead us fans to believe that this ship will become canon. Even without these little hints, the cast and creators weren’t exactly trying to hid their feelings about the couple. I was lucky enough to get to go to PaleyFest again this year and even after they made these two sit with seven people between them, they weren’t able to keep this a secret. I’m hoping that we get a little something before this season ends!!
