30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #30

Day 30. Last Movie You Watched

I’m so sad to say that this is the last day of my movie challenge. I’ve enjoyed doing this challenge so much…maybe I’ll find another challenge to do in a few months or so. Let me know if you have any suggestions. My thoughts are maybe a tv or photo challenge. Anyway here’s the last day of the movie challenge!

  • Butter (2012)–In small-town Iowa, an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman in their town’s annual contest. Starring Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone, Ty Burrell, Rob Corddry and Yara Shahidi. Yes this movie is all about butter sculpting but I loved it! There is such an emphasis on the characters and their relationships that make this story so touching. They are crazy yet so endearing. The cast is wonderful! Definitely recommending this movie!

  • Now and Then (1995)–Four 12-year-old girls grow up together during an eventful small-town summer in 1970. Starring Christina Ricci, Rosie O’Donnell, Gaby Hoffmann, Demi Moore, Thora Birch, Melanie Griffith, Ashleigh Aston Moore and Rita Wilson. This is one of my all-time favorites and it didn’t really fit into any of the other categories so I figured I would watch it and mention it here. It’s a great coming of age story with all the fun and weirdness of being a kid/preteen.

  • Gone Baby Gone (2007)–Two Boston area detectives investigate a little girl’s kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personality. Based on the Dennis Lehane novel. Written and directed by Ben Affleck. Starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris and Amy Ryan. I’ve seen this movie a handful of times but it was the 99 cent rental on iTunes so i figured I would watch it again. I really love Ben Affleck behind the camera! He did a wonderful job with this film as well as The Town. I’ve also heard great things about Argo. I can’t wait to see it.

  • Save the Date (2012)–Sarah begins to confront her shortcomings after she rejects her boyfriend’s hasty proposal and soon finds herself in a rebound romance. Meanwhile, her sister Beth is immersed in the details of her wedding. Starring Lizzy Caplan, Alison Brie, Martin Starr, Mark Webber and Geoffrey Arend. My girl crush right now is Lizzy Caplan and I just love everything that she does. This movie moves slowly but it’s an interesting look into a woman’s resistance to relationships.

  • Riding in Cars With Boys (2001)–A single mother, with dreams of becoming a writer, has a son at the age of 15 in 1965, and goes through a failed marriage with the drug-addicted father. Starring Drew Barrymore, Steve Zahn, Brittany Murphy, James Wood and Lorraine Bracco. This is another favorite of mine that I sometimes forget about because it is pretty sad. I love Drew Barrymore and I think this is one the best roles she’s ever played.

Day 29. First Movie You Ever Remember Watching

I’ve seen so many movies that it is really tough for me to remember seeing a lot of them. These are a few movies that have been memorable viewing experiences.

  • The Jungle Book (1967)–Bagheera the Panther and Baloo the Bear have a difficult time trying to convince a boy to leave the jungle for human civilization. My dad told me that this was the first movie I saw in the movie theater. They were playing it somewhere in Miami when I was a few months old and my dad took me. I obviously don’t remember this but I figure it’s a big deal.

  • Vacancy (2007)–A young married couple becomes stranded at an isolated motel and finds hidden video cameras in their room. They realize that unless they escape, they’ll be the next victims of a snuff film. Starring Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson. This was the first rated R movie that I saw in the movie theater without an adult. I just remember that my friend was really nervous because she didn’t have her license yet so she brought a bunch of other things with her birthday on them. It was really funny. The movie wasn’t great but we came up with a whole list of things to do/not do so we would never end up in a horror movie.

  • Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain (1995)–A city girl teams up with a tomboy to solve the mystery of Bear Moutian, Molly Morgan and the buried treasure as well as learn about true friendships. Starring Christina Ricci and Anna Chlumsky. This was the movie that I always rented every time we went to Blockbuster. There was just something about it that I was in love with.

  • Lilo & Stitch (2002)–A Hawaiian girl adopts an unusual pet who is actually a notorious extra-terrestrial fugitive from the law. This is probably my most memorable movie theater experience. I saw this movie in Massachusetts when we were visiting family. The theater was packed and I just remember my cousins, my brother and I had a hard time finding seats…I think my brother even sat on the floor?! It was one of those memories that I’ve always remembered. I miss those times that I used to spend with my cousins…everyone’s all grown up now!!

  • Legally Blonde (2001)–When a blonde sorority queen is dumped by her boyfriend, she decides to follow him to law school to get him back and, once there, learns she has more legal savvy than she ever imagined. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson and Selma Blair. I don’t necessarily remember the first time I saw this movie but I do remember that this was the first movie on DVD that I ever bought/owned. I’ve seen this movie so many times and it’s always amazing!!

30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #6

Day 6. Favorite Horror

This is the perfect category for this month. Every October, I watch 31 Halloween/horror films because I just love Halloween. I’m in the middle of this month’s list but you can see last year’s list here. I absolutely love slasher movies but most movies in the horror genre don’t really scare me so I had a hard time picking a few favorites.

  • Wrong Turn (2003)–Six people find themselves trapped in the woods of West Virginia, hunted down by cannibalistic mountain men grossly disfigured through generations of in-breeding. Stars Eliza Dushku, Jeremy Sisto and Emmanuelle Chiqui. This has to be my favorite slasher film and I’m not really sure why. I just love it!

  • Zombieland (2009)–A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, and a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the Last Twinkie and a pair of sisters trying o get to an amusement park join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America. Stars Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin. The greatest zombie movie! There is a great sense of comedy while their entire world is being destroyed by zombies.

  • Scream (1996)–A killer known as “ghost face” begins killing off teenagers, and as the body count beings rising, one girl and her friends find themselves contemplating the rules of horror films as they find themselves living in a real-life one. Directed by Wes Craven and stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette and a slew of other name actors. This movie is complete genius! Making fun of the horror genre while still being a horror movie…EPIC!! I should also point out that all four Scream movies are included in this but the first one is still the best. My favorite scene of any movie is in this one: Jamie Kennedy is sitting on the couch watching Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween yelling at Jamie to turn around because the killer is behind her. This makes you, as the viewer, yell our to Jamie Kennedy for him to turn around because the killer is behind him. It’s just so clever!

  • The Cabin in the Woods (2011)–Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more han they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods. Written and produced by the fantastic Joss Whedon. Starring Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemswoth, Jesse Williams, Fran Kranz, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Amy Acker and Tom Lenk. I had no idea what this movie was really about but I kept hearing wonderful things so I figured I’d give it a try. OMG! I was surprised by how much I liked it! And I love how Joss Whedon works with a lot of the same people over and over again. Even Andrew from Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in this movie!

  • Sleepy Hollow (1999)–Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of 3 people with the culprit being the legendary apparition, the Headless Horseman. Directed by Tim Burton and Stars Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci and Miranda Richardson. Anything with the Tim & Johnny bromance is amazing! Tim Burton has a wonderful eye for weirdness and I love it! So dark but yet so witty.

What are some of your favorite horror movies??
