Day 8. Favorite Thriller
I really like thrillers…even more than horror movies. I think that what makes thrillers even scarier is that usually, these things can actually happen. I’m still waiting for a movie to actually scare me but at least I am pleasantly surprised with the plot twists and turns. I can usually predict what is gonna happen in a movie but with thrillers, I can’t.
- Rear Window (1954)–A wheelchair bound photographer spies on his neighbors from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly. I love a good Hitchcock film and I think this is his best one. His movies are more than just a movie…they are a commentary on humans. The idea of being a voyeur into someone else’s life is so erie yet so normal.
- Double Jeopardy (1999)–A woman framed for her husband’s murder suspects he is still alive; as she has already been tried for the crime, she can’t be re-prosecuted if she finds and kills him. Starring Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones. Ashley Judd kicks butt in this movie!
- The Uninvited (2009)–Anna Rydell returns home to her sister (and best friend) Alex after a stint in a mental hospital, though her recovery is jeopardized thanks to her cruel stepmother, aloof father and the presence of a ghost in their home. Starring Emily Browning, Arielle Kebbel and Elizabeth Banks. Seriously so surprising!! I didn’t put all the pieces together until the plot was starting to unfold. Great twists!!
- Identity (2003)–Stranded at a desolate Nevada motel during a nasty rainstorm, ten strangers become acquainted with each other when they realize that they’re being killed off one by one. Starring John Cusack, Ray Liotta and Amanda Peet. This movies keeps you on your toes. Constantly trying to figure out who the killer is becomes exhausting.
- What Lies Beneath (2000)–The wife of a university research scientist believes that her lakeside Vermont home is haunted by a ghost-or that she’s losing her mind. Starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer. I used to watch this movie all the time. It was the first thriller that made me love this genre!
What is your favorite thriller??
