30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #21

Day 21. Movie With Your Favorite Actor

I am totally and completely obsessed with Robert Downey Jr.!! He is by far my favorite actor! All my friends make fun of how much I love him. I don’t think I could ever really articulate how I feel…even when I wrote a paper on him for a final for one of my college courses! Haha.

  • Iron Man (2008)/Iron Man 2 (2010)–When wealthy industrialist Tony Stark is forced to build an armored suit after a life-threatening incident, he ultimately decides to use its technology to fight against evil. Directed and starring Jon Favreau along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke. I remember going to see this movie and it was when I first fell in love with RDJ. Iron Man is my favorite superhero…I even have my own plastic arc reactor!!

  • Sherlock Holmes (2009)–Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England. Directed by Guy Ritchie. Starring Jude Law and Rachel McAdams. I’m a fan of the Sherlock Holmes books and I think this movie did it justice! Plus Jude Law as Watson made me really like him two. They are quit the pair!

  • Tropic Thunder (2008)–Throughout a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying. Written, directed and starring Ben Stiller. Also starring Jack Black and a star-studded cast. It’s all sorts of wrong but in the best way. Just plain stupid fun.

  • Heart and Souls (1993)–A businessman is reunited with the four lost souls who were his guardian angels during childhood, all with a particular purpose to joining the afterlife. Starring Charles Grodin, Alfre Woodard, Kyra Sedgwick and Tom Sizemore. It’s cute and adorable.

  • Chances Are (1989)–Louie Jeffries is happily married to Corinne. On their first anniversary, Louie is killed crossing the road. Louie is reincarnated as Alex Finch, and twenty years later, fate brings Alex and Louie’s daughter, Miranda, together. It’s not until Alex is invited to Louie’s home that he begins to remember his former life, wife and best friend. Of course, there’s also the problem that he’s attracted to Louie’s/his own daughter. Starring Cybill Shepherd, Ryan O’Neal and Mary Stuart Masterson. It’s a silly story but RDJ pulls it off.

Day 20. Movie With Your Favorite Actress

So my all-time favorite actress is Kate Winslet!! She just picks really interesting parts and is a real person. She also has a great sense of style! My mom made my prom dress to look like the dress Kate wore to the Academy Awards in 2005. It’s by far my favorite awards dress ever!!

  • Finding Neverland (2004)–The story of J.M. Barrie’s friendship with a family who inspired him to create Peter Pan. Starring Johnny Depp, Julie Christie and Freddie Highmore. I love the story of Peter Pan! This is a touching story about the man-child who never grew up.

  • The Life of David Gale (2003)–A man against capital punishment is accused of murdering a fellow activist and is sent to death row. Starring Kevin Spacey, Laura Linney and Gabriel Mann. The best part of this movie is that you’re not sure what to believe. Is he guilty? Is he innocent? It’s gripping.

  • Titanic (1997)–A boy and a girl from differing social backgrounds meet during the ill-fated maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic. Written and directed by James Cameron. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates and Bill Paxton. It’s Titanic…I don’t think I need to elaborate. But it was when I fell in love with the both of them. I remember seeing it in the theaters…I was 7 years old and we sat in the second row.

  • Quills (2000)–In a Napoleonic era insane asylum, an inmate, the irrepressible Marquis De Sade, fights a battle of wills against a tyrannically prudish doctor. Starring Geoffrey Rush, Joaquin Phoenix and Michael Caine. It’s totally crazy and disturbing in so many ways. Yet somehow you can’t take your eyes off it.

  • The Holiday (2006)–Two women troubled with guy-problems swap homes in each other’s countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love. Starring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black. Every character in this movie is so incredibly likable. They’re all charming even when they’re having a difficult time. So sweet and enjoyable.

Day 17. Least Favorite Book Adaptation

Nothing is worse than your favorite book turned into a bad movie. So disappointing!

  • My Sister’s Keeper (2004/2009)–Anna Fitzgerald looks to earn medical emancipation from her parents who until now have relied on their youngest child to help their leukemia-stricken daughter Kate remain alive. Starring Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin and Alec Baldwin. The novel is written by Jodi Picoult and it is one of my all time favorite books! I was excited to hear that they were making it into a movie (I love the lifetime movies made from her other books) and after hearing the cast, I was pretty happy. Everyone seemed perfect except for Cameron Diaz. I was enjoying the movie until they completely changed the ending of the movie!! Don’t mess with a perfect ending like this one!

  • Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events (1999-2006/2004)–When a massive fire kills their parents, three children are delivered to the custody of cousin and stage actor Count Olaf, who is secretly plotting to steal their parents’ vast fortune. Starring Jim Carrey, Liam Aiken, Emily Browning, Jude Law and Meryl Streep. This was just a huge disappointment! So confusing since they kind of picked random things from a handful of books in the series and then made a new story. Epic fail.

  • Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat (1957/2003)–Sally and Conrad are two bored kids whose life is turned up-side-down when a talking cat comes to visit them. Starring mike Myers, Spencer Breslin and Dakota Fanning. It’s a silly children’s book but it just doesn’t translate well into a live-action film. It’s just creepy and inappropriate.

  • A Christmas Carol (1843/2009)–An animated retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic novel about a Victorian-era miser taken on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions. Starring Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman and Colin Firth. It’s a classic Christmas story but the animation was weird and I was just totally bored. I slept through a good amount of it.

  • Twilight Saga (2005-2008/2008-2012)–Bella Swan is a teenage girl who moves to Forks, Washington and falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. Stephenie Meyer is the author of the series. The movie stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathbone. The worst thing about the films is the cast. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are just irritating and not what I pictured at all. Plus Robert Pattinson always looks like his hair is really dirty.
