30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #28

Day 28. Movie With Your Favorite Hero

I’ve used some of my favorite heroes for other categories but here are some others that I really do love.

  • Gru in Despicable Me (2010)–When a criminal mastermind uses a trio of orphan girls as pawns for a grand scheme, he finds their love is profoundly changing him for the better. Starring the voices of Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig and Miranda Cosgrove. Besides just loving everything about this movie, Gru is one of my all-time favorite movie characters! He tries so hard to be a bad guy but he just has too big of a heart.

  • Gracie Hart in Miss Congeniality (2000)–An FBI agent must go undercover in the Miss United States beauty pageant to prevent a group from bombing the event. Starring Sandra Bullock, Michael Caine and Benjamin Bratt. This movie is too freaking funny! Gracie Hart is a badass chick but in a really fun way. She’s just adorable!

  • Slim in Enough (2002)–On the run from an abusive husband, a young mother begins to train herself to fight back. Starring Jennifer Lopez, Billy Campbell, Juliette Lewis and Noah Wyle. Here is a woman that doesn’t take any crap from anyone. She is so strong and really stands up for herself and her daughter.

  • Forrest Gump in Forrest Gump (1994)–Forrest Gump, while not intelligent, has accidentally been present at many historic moments, but his true love, Jenny eludes him. Starring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise and Sally Field. Even though he doesn’t always do things by thinking them through, Forrest has a great heart and always does things for others. He is an all around good guy.

  • Erin Brockovich in Erin Brockovich (2000)–An unemployed single mother becomes a legal assistant and almost single-handedly brings down a California power company accused of polluting a city’s water supply. Directed for Steven Soderbergh. Starring Julia Roberts, Albert Finney and David Brisbin. The epitome of tough woman. She doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do. She stands for what is right even when no one else will.

What’s a movie with your favorite hero??

30 Day Movie Challenge: Day #2

Day 2. Least Favorite Film

I have to admit that it’s really hard for me to see a movie that I don’t like. I mean there are definitely some bad movies out there but I can usually tell if a movie is going to be bad, yet entertaining and then I can’t be disappointed when it turns out to be the case. Some of the worst movies are the best ones to watch when you need a good pick-me-up. I guess there have been a handful of movies that I didn’t like at all–even a few that I had to walk out of the theater for. Here are a few that I just don’t like.

  • The Tree of Life (2011)–The story of a family in Waco Texas in 1956. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence and struggles with his parents conflicting philosophies. Terrence Malick writes and directs while Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain star. Besides the fact that there are beyond stunning scenes to look at in the movie, the above log line for the movie is complete bullshit. There was no plot in this movie and it made no sense. There was a whole 30 minutes of footage that showed how the Earth was formed. This was totally not worth my time.

  • Gigli (2003)–The violent story about how a criminal lesbian, a tough-guy hit-man with a heart of gold, and a retarded man came to be best friends through a hostage. This Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez flop doesn’t need anymore explanation. By far the worst movie ever made.

  • The Bounty Hunter (2010)–A bounty hunter learns that his next target is his ex-wife, a reporter working on a murder cover-up. Soon after their reunion, the always-at-odds duo find themselves on a run-for-their-lives adventure. I usually like the cheesy Jennifer Aniston rom-coms but this one is just riddled with ridiculousness.

  • Joe Dirt (2001)–David Spade stars as Joe Dirt, an idiot who works as an oil weller who is on the search for his parents who abandoned him when he was a baby at the grand canyon. Yes it is as stupid as it sounds.

  • Sleeping Beauty (2011)–A haunting portrait of Lucy, a young university student drawn into a mysterious hidden world of unspoken desires. Although Emily Browning shows her talent as an actress, I don’t think I’ve ever been more disturbed in a movie. I guess I assumed it was a live action of the beloved Disney fairytale and boy was I wrong. The things that happen in this movie were so graphic and violent that it just made me feel so uncomfortable.

Are there any movies that you dislike??
